How to Read a "79,000+ Ratings" Claim

How to Read a

Retina Clear's own site states a 4.9 out of 5 rating from more than 79,000 customer ratings. That's a striking number, and it's worth understanding what a claim like that can and can't tell you, since we were unable to independently verify it ourselves.

Where the Number Comes From

A brand-reported rating count is usually pulled from the brand's own order or review platform. Unless that platform publishes its underlying data or is run by an independent third party, outside readers -- including review sites like ours -- generally have no way to audit the number itself.

Questions Worth Asking

  • Does the site show individual reviews you can read, not just a summary number?
  • Are reviews dated, and do they read like they were written by different people?
  • Is the rating count consistent across the brand's different pages?
  • Does an independent source (an outside review platform, a retailer listing) show a comparable number?

What We Did Instead

Rather than repeating the brand's 79,000+ figure as fact, we collected our own smaller set of reviews for the reviews page and built a separate editorial "Our Rating" score, so readers can see a number we can actually stand behind.
